- Recommended for ages eight and up. The pens are fragile and the ink can get messy! To open the ink bottle, shake first, remove the metal cap, then use a paper towel or napkin to gently remove the rubber plug. That's the messy part! Now simply dip the pen about halfway into the ink bottle and rotate a little to ensure ink covers the pen. Tap very gently on the side of the jar to release excess ink. Then start writing!
