They are liquid chalk so they need to be mixed and activated. The markers will arrive with a new white/tan tip and fresh chalk inside. When starting the the markers, you will see the colored chalk flow into the tip. Shake the markerPress and pump the tip down on a surfaceKeep pressing and pumping until the liquid chalk flows into the tipThe tip starts as white/tan but becomes colored as you press and pumpIt take a little bit to start the markers so please be patient (can take up to 90 seconds) Start the markers at ground level if you are planning to use them on an airplane. The cabin pressure causes them to start too quickly. Please use additional cautions in high alpine environments as well.
